Titan’s oval gear (OG) range of flow meters operate on the basic positive displacement technique in that they take a discrete volume of liquid and pass it from the inlet to the outlet without loss or slippage. By nature these devices perform better at higher viscosities as the increasing fluid thickness reduces the leakage rate even further and extends the useful operating range to lower flow rates. The oval gear design allows these flowmeters to operate with a very low differential pressure, only millimetres of head in some cases.

At the heart of Titan’s oval gear flowmeters are a pair of toothed oval gears, one of which contains PTFE coated magnets, the gears rotating freely on robust bearings. Rotation is detected through the chamber wall by a Hall Effect detector, Namur sensor or a reed switch giving a number of pulses per litre passed.

Titan’s oval gear sensors are very suitable for measuring oils, although some models are manufactured specifically for corrosive media, being made from totally non-metallic plastic and ceramic components.

Overview & Application

Titan’s compact rugged oval gear flowmeters are designed to give high performance with a low cost of ownership. These meters are perform well measuring simple water-like products as well as lubricating liquids. Several options are available with totally non-metallic wetted components, PEEK, ceramic and a choice of elastomer which make these OGs the ideal choice for the metering of aggressive chemicals. The standard inlet and outlet are BSP or NPT female threads. The standard models are 316 stainless steel, aluminum, and PEEK. For hazardous areas either the Namur sensor or the reed switch (simple apparatus) may be used.

The output is an NPN pulse or a voltage free contact closure either of which is readily interfaced with most electronic display or recording devices. This combination of materials and technology ensures a long life product with reliable, accurate operation throughout.
PEEK is a superb material for gear and bearing manufacture, it has excellent pressure and velocity characteristics coupled with very good thermal properties and chemical resistance.
